Facts About Chile




  • The capital of Chile is Santiago.
  •  The President is right-wing Sebastian Piner. He took office in March, 2010. 
  •  Its most important natural resources include copper, timber, iron ore, nitrates, and precious metals.
  •  Chile's important natural attractions include the infamous Atacama Desert, considered the driest place on Earth and a filming site for movies set on Mars, as well as the Chilean Antarctic region.




 
  • Its cultural attractions include the Chilean Museum of Pre-Colombian art, its national monument known as the Quitor, the Mapocho station, (once the main base for Chile's extensive railway network), and the Palacio de Belles Artes, a palace built in 1910.




  • Chile's most popular dishes are empanadas, (a turnover filled with meats, cheeses, and sometimes fruit), completos, (hot dogs), ceviche, (a lime flavored seafood cocktail), and alfajores, (a cookie pastry covered and filled with chocolate and butterscotch).
